Recommendations

In such a diverse world of culture and ecosystems, our approaches to foster these systems must be similarly diverse. Although the Integrated Conservation Development Project idea has long been contended in literature, with enough creativity and flexibility, and attention to recommendations, I believe they are a valuable component of the planet's future.

Recommendations for ICDP management vary from site to site. In some cases researchers have recommended that the ICDP concept be abandoned entirely in favor of more classical management plans, such as Joe Peters' assessment of Madagascar's ICDPs: He contends that the socio-economic situation in Madagascar, in conjunction with its unstable government, have made the country an unsuitable environment for ICDPs. In other cases researchers recommend the adoption of new management plans and techniques. Overall, more research is needed to determine what kinds of sites and socio-political situations are best-suited for ICDPs. Once that is determined, project coordinators will be able to focus on the traits of successful ICDPs discussed in the "successes" page of this site and avoid the shortfalls discussed in "skepticisms."
